You know, I'd like to think you are included in that 'friend' category so if you ever want to come over, you can use the sauna, too.
I don't know how to fish. Maybe I should learn how. I imagine if someone doesn't start fishing soon the pond will get overpopulated. So if you like fishing or know anyone who does, let me know.
I hope we get winter here. I made a deal with someone that when we get snow I will get her to go on a toboggan with me. She had a poor first experience so I am trying to change her mind.
( Likewise Alex has a different UN for this time on Earth, but she grins when she sees the text. )
Been navigating the whole identity I have and trying to trace any of these energy signals. Did you know I'm assigned as a villain? I have a whole pseudonym and everything. "Miss Hunter."
That's extra funny if you knew how people called me that back home for entirely unrelated reasons.
How are you holding up? And no apologies, I haven't figured out everyone's contact information myself yet!
[ Alex is chatty as ever. Despite her designation as a "villain," that's a good sign. ]
I'm fine, thank you. 😊
It sounds like you've been pretty busy... I don't think that these hero and villain designations mean very much under these circumstances, so if you want to share information, I think it could benefit the both of us in uncovering the reality of the situation in this world.
As for me, I don't have any ability to track the anomaly or even detect it. I was given the alias "Cyan Star" as a "hero" and the name "Seth" as a civilian, and my own ability doesn't help much with the way I generally do work... I haven't even used my "hero" persona much, and I'm not really sure where that name came from. [ Is it because their eyes have cyan flecks? That'd be...something. ] Where did "Miss Hunter" come from for you?
I'm here to share intel! We're only hobbling ourselves if we don't at this point.
I think it's a joke following me from home, where I'm part of the Hunter's Association. Except here apparently I hunt after valuables? Or seem to target the rich in various ways that aren't entirely clear. The bank account I have shows I'm keeping it all so there's that I guess. Very villainous. Also possibly I hunt down missing persons, places, or things?
Which works for the purpose of hunting down the anomaly, even if it's a bit... everywhere.
[ A sound-proof bubble generator??? HE WANTS TO SEE THE SOUND-PROOF GENERATOR. ]
yeah thanks i'll come over
[ He will be a nerd once he arrives at her address, alright? Which, unfortunately, he does need to deal with traffic and not being very creative in terms of his abilities and travel yet, but that's alright, at least they're both in the criminal city. It takes Gorgug around twenty minutes to arrive, and to buzz her number.
But as he does, he does send her another message: ]
i look like a human right now
[ Why does he text that? Because outside her door is... the most average-looking American guy, staring down at his own shoes as he waits. ]
( This complex once had a working system where people could be let in without having to have a person on the other side of the door. That broke a few years ago she's been told, so Alex is trotting her way down the stairs after the buzz hits her apartment.
Which means she sends a quick: )
Got it, be right there!
( Only to eventually hit the door and push it open for Gorgug. Assuming that the... wow. )
My friend, Aurora really wanted you to blend in. You're very... American?
( The question mark is audible in her voice. What does one say to a... this? She steps back and gestures for him to come inside, nodding her head to the staircase. )
Up that way. There's an elevator, but it always smells like something weird. I take the stairs.
( Alex has been waking around Etrayan dawn after recovering from her signal mishap, meaning when she stirs, its as the skies just begin to lighten, but before the sun can be seen peeking over the horizon. She yawns and stretches, still laying down, before kicking her feet free of her comforter and starting to heft herself up to sitting, tapping her feet on the ground hunting for her slippers.
She's not trying to sense for anything, and is still foggy brained from just having woken. Clearly, that's totally fine and normal for a non-paranoid twenty-something to do when alone in her apartment.
The problem is when she's not as alone as she assumed she was. )
He wasn't waiting physically; he was monitoring her consciousness remotely and blips into existence in a darkened corner of her bedroom when he senses her waking up. He looks pretty benign, a tall willowy form dressed in whatever counts as business casual from Alex's cultural perspective.
His eyes are bright with interest and his voice has the smooth even cadence of self-confidence. When he speaks, it's whatever she counts as her native language. ]
You sleep pretty soundly for someone who let out a high-powered distress call not too long ago.
( Alex is on her feet and whipping around, having scooped up one slipper in the process and holding that out with the intent defending herself at the unexpected voice. Or person, as her eyes adjust and she sees someone new to her standing in that corner over there — Alex pointing her slipper his way, her eyes widening.
Then narrowing. She straightens up, still holding her slipper, but it looks less like a threat to toss the thing at him. )
Kind of had to right after. And I'm not great at the whole paranoia keeps me sleepless thing. Where did you come from?
( Not that she knows he isn't an Etrayan, because she doesn't. Anyone on network can see what she sent out, and piece together what it is, even if this certainty from a guy in business casual like she's back in the office talking to anyone not on Alpha team is twigging her a bit. Literally, where did he just come in from? )
[ He's not about to try to pretend he's Etrayan. That would be extremely tedious. Scylla can have all the patience necessary to get what he wants, but if it's not necessary, why bother? Time might be a construct but it's one he values; it's one he'll end up with a finite amount of, with the universe slowly ending. ]
Somewhere else.
[ He looks with amusement at her disheveled state and semi-threatening slipper. ]
With how loud you were, I thought there'd be something terrible going on. But it can't be that bad if you have... slippers.
[ Shortly after their last message on the network, Setsu switches to their private messages.
Same place, same Setsu—only their smile is more strained and guilty than before. ]
Thankfully, unless you came here with a weapon, finding a weapon here isn't difficult. We shouldn't have to worry about anyone suddenly finding a gun and deciding to use it. [ Setsu shifts and pulls out a hunting knife that, seemingly, they just keep on their person like that. ] I had to buy this on Earth...but for the sake of the mission, I'll leave it behind, okay? [ But clearly not at this moment, since Setsu tucks it back into its sheath. ]
... Alex, I already told this to Kaeya once before during our last mission, but... If it comes down to it, and I become a threat, I won't blame you if you have to kill me. I won't ask you to feel the same way. Just...don't feel too bad about it, if it has to happen.
[ Saying it now so Kaeya doesn't need to hear it again. It was bad enough the first time around. ]
I haven't checked it out, but I just learned there's a shooting range here we... might want to stop by and see about stuff. Before the vent opens.
( Alex blinks at the knife, not entirely thrown off given some of what she's carried and what people around her have. It's not her current state of being, but it's not a bad idea either. She's just fairly sure if she can't escape on her own merits, a knife wasn't going to be the factor that would have added up differently.
Which isn't the point right now. Setsu is telling her something very important to them. )
Uh. Okay, Setsu. I hear you. Can I also point out that, you know, while I have had to kill people before, I'm way, way more likely to do everything else to incapacitate you first? Even if I'm slipping with my grasp on reality. But like... if I seem like I'm slipping, do what you have to do to be safe too. You know?
( She just doesn't see the merit in going for kill shots. Everything about this place messes with her sense of outsized or accurate reactions anymore. )
Huh? There is? I didn't know that... Yeah, let's go check it out, before anything can happen
[ It's good to have a task to focus on—it's one thing that pulls Setsu back from their own internal struggle. There are people who need them to pull it together.
... Right, they need to pull it together. Setsu breathes a little, inaudible sigh, lips parting. Their eyes close. When Alex responds like that, it really feels like they're just worrying over nothing.
They open their eyes again to face Alex. ]
You're right. Sorry, that was weird. I guess...Never mind. [ They tuck their hair back behind their ear. ] I trust you, so I'll stand beside you, and whatever happens here, we'll figure it out when the time comes.
Anyway, [ Moving on- ] your post really didn't sit well with people. Is everything okay?
Edited (i didn't pick up what you put down the first time :x) 2025-09-18 22:48 (UTC)
That was some crazy shit in the fog, but I don't know if I remembered to thank you for that magic boost you gave me. It saved my skin. Thanks for that. I owe you one.
Backdated to stuffed animal day
is he EXCITED
SO EXCITED
There is a pond-type thing here too, but that is for fishing and a bit of a ways away so no jumping from sauna into cold water for me.
he's so cute help
Drag some of your friends there in too, that's always the best with saunas. Sweating together!
Hey, fishing is nice, but yeah it sounds like too far. We'll have to see if we get a winter here, then you can race out into the snow and roll around!
He's very excited about not having to haul water
I don't know how to fish. Maybe I should learn how. I imagine if someone doesn't start fishing soon the pond will get overpopulated. So if you like fishing or know anyone who does, let me know.
